I continually return to painting botanicals. Flowers make me happy and content in the small way that they lighten your mood when you see them on your kitchen table after a difficult day. The beauty of florals is so joyful, but also so feeling and temporary. They act as a gentle and tangible reminder that time passes. Since having my daughter, time feels like it is slipping away from me as I try to hold onto little moments. Painting these floral canvases somehow felt like a way to transmute my desire to urgently hold on to time.
